Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending a workshop led by two remarkable entrepreneurs, Nigel Botterill, founder of Entrepreneurs Circle, and Stephen Bartlett, the renowned entrepreneur from Dragon's Den. The event was designed to make us think deeply about the Why, What, and How of our businesses. As I sat there, furiously jotting down notes ๐, I realised just how crucial these elements are to business growth. ๐ฑ
Have you ever wondered why some businesses seem to flourish effortlessly while others struggle to gain momentum? ๐ค The workshop shed light on this mystery by revealing the seven and a half reasons businesses fail to grow. ๐ง
Here are the insights I gathered:
Death by Opportunity: Spreading yourself too thin by chasing every shiny object instead of focusing on what truly drives your business forward. โจ
Working 'IN' the Business, Not 'ON' It: Getting caught up in daily tasks rather than setting the strategic direction for growth. ๐
Misunderstanding the Target Audience: Making assumptions about what your audience cares about, rather than truly understanding their needs. ๐ฏ
Trying to Be All Things to All People: Instead of honing in on your ideal clients, you dilute your efforts. ๐
Incorrect Pricing: Not aligning your pricing strategy with your value proposition. ๐ฐ
Lack of Efficiency: Wasting time and resources on non-income-generating activities due to poor processes and automation. โณ
Undefined Success: Without a clear vision of success, how will you know when you've achieved it? ๐
7.5 Thinking Too Small: Limiting your potential and feeling underachieved by not aiming high enough. ๐
As I reflected on these seven and a half reasons, I realised that the root cause of these mistakes often lies in a lack of focus on what truly matters. This introspection led me to question why I sometimes fall into these traps in my own business. It became clear that when my "Why" and "What" fade into the background, I lose sight of my goals and priorities. Writing this post prompted me to revisit and reaffirm my "Why" and "What." I started my business to gain freedomโto make my own choices and have a positive impact on the world. ๐ My business must deliver enough to allow me to live life on my terms and create opportunities to make a difference in others' lives. By keeping these at the forefront, I can maintain focus and drive my business forward. ๐
Look, I want you to do well in your business, so I think the best thing you could do now is to reflect on your own "Why" and "What." Why did you start your own business, and what do you want to achieve? I would love to hear your story, so please email me or leave a comment below.
